REFERENCE LIBRARY

Based on the nature of collection, the Reference Library of the State Archives Department can be included under the category “Special Library”. As most of the collection in the Library are having historical and Archival Value, It stands for Reference purpose and caters to the intellectual needs of a large number of research scholars. The Library is open from 10.15 AM to 5.15 PM in all working days and the users are allowed to refer books from the library between 10.30 AM to 4.30 PM. Photocopy facility is also provided to the users after charging an approved rate per copy fixed by the Govt. of Kerala.

The collection being a “Closed Reference”, the library follows “Closed Access System”. The library holds about 10034 books, out of these 4356 books are oldest Malayalam books recently transferred Tamil Nadu Archives. It is listed separately and kept as a different collection. The total collection includes Travancore and Cochin administration reports, Travancore civil lists, Manuals, Five Year Plans, Departmental administration reports, Travancore Almanac and Directories, Legislative Council / Assembly proceedings of Travancore, Cochin and Kerala, Census of India, Madras Gazetteers, Rules and Notifications of Travancore and Cochin, old books transferred from SCERT, books received as gift from Kerala Language Institute, Kerala Sahithya Academy, KCHR etc. About 10 periodicals are also available in the library. Books available here are subjected to classification, cataloguing and systematically arranged so as to effect the easy retrieval.
